At first sight most style of general copy paper may all seem the same but getting the correct sheet for the job in hand can sometimes be a little more complicated than it first appears.
Here at Officeprofiles we get asked all sorts of questions on office supplies and especially paper; so we thought it might help our customers to list some of those questions and the answers that might help get the correct sheet.
Q; I want a basic run of the mill paper that’s cheap, what should I look for?
A; this is by far the most common paper that we sell. Firstly it’s A4 that you need, next you obviously need to be browsing the 'white paper' products within our site. Next you should think about weight - the most popular and also the cheapest is the 80gsm range 9this depicts the gramage of each sheet - 80gsm means 80grams per 100mm square).
Q; my office buys tons of paper, do I get a better price if I buy in bulk?
A; Yes, we have to do the same ourselves - on average we buy and sell over 5 million sheets of paper a month - so we know how to do it! some of the Five star and Office style papers on our site offer further savings for larger orders - you could also call our sales team for any 'spot deals' on paper as these come up all the time.
Q; I am looking for a very corporate and quality finish. What do I need to look for?
A; Aim for a corresponance paper of textured paper. Conqueror and ~Plus Fabric do some great sheets that really do give a more corporate print that normal papers - these sheets are also generally heavier that copier papers (look for anything between 90gsm and 120gsm) for a thicker sheet and more substantial finish. The great thing about this style of sheets is that they also have matching business Envelopes made from exactly the same paper - this really does give a uniformed look to any correspondence. Textured papers will also go through any printer, copier or fax machine with no problems.
Q; I already have a paper that works fine for me, I am not sure what it is though - can you help?
A; Sure, we love a challenge - simply post it to us and we'll cross reference it with something from our range to suit.
Q; I want to print text AND images on my paper, which one’s do I need to look for?
A; This area of office supplies ahs grown on a huge scale over recent years and the ranges of colour print style paper has met the challenge head on. Look for high spec colour print style products; the 100gsm A4 ranges and above are stocked with this style of paper.
Q; what’s the best way to store paper?
A; First - KEEP THE PAPER IN IT'S REAM WRAPPER, this is the number one mistake that people make, they take it all out of the wrapper and store it on a shelf or letter tray so its easier to get access to - this will compromise the quality of the paper EVERY TIME; what happens is that the air and atmosphere get to it, the paper starts to absorb whatever moisture is in the room - this is a major reason for paper jams in things like photocopiers and printers - the paper has taken moisture on board and has become different to what the printer/copier is calibrated to thus it doesn't go through correctly and gets jammed.
Some more tips include;
Paper storage tips;
Avoid moisture - to make sure you paper feeds correctly through you printer or photocopier you need to keep it away from moisture. Paper is made to a very low moisture level (typically below 5%) - avoid damp conditions or the paper will not feed correctly and could damage your office machines.
Do not overheat paper - avoid storing your office paper near a radiator or store it on a window shelf where the sun can affect its quality. Exposure to heat will affect the moisture levels of your office paper and lead to jamming in the machine.
Keep it wrapped - Again this is a moisture issue, once you have taken the paper you need from the wrapper reseal the pack and avoid letting the atmosphere breach the quality of your office paper.
Store near the machine - this is probably the best tip for getting the most from your office paper, if your store it by the machine for which it is intended then it will be stored at the same temperature as that machine thus giving the best chance of your paper jamming - if this is not possible always allow your paper to reach room temperature before using.
Q; what do the A4 an A3 sizes mean - how do I measure my paper?

A1 - 594x841
A2 - 420x594
