Traditional Sellotape is a pressure sensitive, transparent cellulose based product and is by far and away the UK's leading brand of sticky tape and clear tape. The Sellotape brand is typically used for the sealing, repairing, attaching and joining of an item or items. It's original inventors were in fact British, Colin Kininmonth and George Gray. Kininmonth and Gray took a standard Cellophane film and applied a resin which was rubber based and found that this simple but effective product could have endless uses in everyday offices and homes around the world, although the basis for their work did rely on an older french patent they were sure that their new design was a winner. Sellotape was then quickly sent into mass production in London, Until 2002 the Dickinson Robinson group produced the Sellotape brand when it was then purchased by the Henkel group which also produces many other adhesives and glue products for the trade and retail market.
