To help browsers make an informed decision and choose the correct Envelopes for the job in hand we have listed below a selection of the most asked questions on Envelopes, Jiffy Bags and mailing pouches.
Q; which are the cheapest Envelopes I can buy?
A; This would be a DL envelope, the best way to buy them would be in a box of 1000 and in 80gsm – look for the five star DL or the Office Style DL these are very competitively priced.
Q; what are the cheapest ones to post?
A; again DL and also C5 Envelopes, the Royal Mails ‘pricing in proportion’ programme came in a few years ago meaning the Envelope size rather than weight (which was how it was priced) is more important when it comes to the cost of postage.
Q; I don’t want to have to lick my envelopes, can this be avoided?
A; we agree, this is not a nice job at all! Although we still sell many gummed envelopes its far better to opt for the self-seal or press seal ones where possible. Each product description will tell you which type of sealing the Envelope has but there are basically 3 styles;
Gummed – these have to be moistened to seal (either the old school way of licking them or by using a sponge dampener)
Self-seal – you simply have to press the two flaps together to secure your envelope, no mess, no licking and easy to use.
Peel n seal – these have an adhesive strip with needs peeling away, this makes for a very secure fastening.
Q; I want an A4 Envelope? But cannot find them on the site?
A; this is a common problem, they are there but they are actually called C4 (this is an industry thing) these are very slightly larger than an A4 sheet – otherwise you sheet would not fir in the envelope. Some people also refer to DL’s as A4 envelopes THIS IS INCORRECT you will need to fold an A4 sheet twice in order for it to fit in a DL Envelope, DL’s are actually one third of an A4 sheet.
Q; I use the large brown padded jiffy bags, is there a cheaper alternative?
A; Yes, both Jiffy and now Five Star do a lightweight (cheaper postage) option which is white and bubble lined – all sizes are available in lightweight options.
