HP uses now uses recycled plastics in inkjet cartridges

04 February 2008
The team over at HP have recently announced that they have developed, what they describe as an “engineering breakthrough” that enables the use of eco friendly post-consumer recycled plastics in the production and application of new Original HP inkjet and laser toner cartridges.
More than 200 million inkjet printer cartridges have been manufactured using the process so far. Hewlett Packard used more than 2.26 million kilograms of recycled plastic in these new ‘green aware’ inkjet cartridges last year and the company is committed to doubling that amount during 2008.
The manufacturer strongly believes that using recycled products saves energy in production whilst also keeping plastic out of landfills – since first piloting the process, HP has used enough recycled plastic in this process to fill more than 200 tractor trailers.
“By developing this new technology to use recycled plastics in Original HP inkjet printer cartridges, we are faced with the opportunity to reduce the environmental impact that HP office products have on the planet,” said Michael Hoffmann, senior VP, Supplies, Imaging and Printing Group, HP. “HP’s considerable investments in building a sound recycling infrastructure made this achievement possible, and this is just the beginning of what we hope to accomplish.”
